Money Saving Tips with a Baby

Your Budget doesn’t have to go away when you bring your new baby home to your apartment! Here are some of the best ideas we have found for money saving tips with a baby.

Money Saving Tips with a Baby

Saving Money Pre-Baby: Whether you are in the pre-pregnancy stages or are currently pregnant you can make some moves to help you with money for the next 9 months and beyond. If you have a double-income household, try living off 1 paycheck and putting all of the second income into savings. This will help you save for all the expenses you’ll have after your bundle of joy comes home from the hospital and gets you accustomed to living on 1 income. Even saving half of one income can make a big difference.

Baby Clothes and Maternity Clothes: Let’s face it, you will only need maternity clothes for 5-6 months. Look at Consignment Shops in your area for gently used items. After the birth of your child, you can use the material to make something you like that will fit your new figure. Finding deals on baby clothes is possible if you know how to shop the sales. Look for close out prices on end of season items. If you are expecting in September, look for super low prices on items from last winter and fall in March. Buy then and save for when you need them. Remember to figure for the approximate size your child will need in that future season. It’s always a good idea to go a little big.

Feeding Your Baby: Breast feeding a newborn is the ultimate in saving money. But what do you do when they are ready for other foods to be introduced into their diet? We recommend making large batches of mashed fresh vegetables at home. Spoon the mixture into ice cube trays. Once frozen, place them in a freezer bag so they keep fresh and you can use them when you need them. You can do this with fruits like pears and apples too. Making your own baby food will save you a lot of money and you have the added benefit of knowing that the food is free of additives and salt or sugar.
