Throw a Great BBQ for Less Money

Cookout season is in full swing and chances are you will be attending a BBQ or two this summer.  As you know, the price of groceries has risen and many barbecue fans are wondering how to throw a great party and not break the bank while doing it. Here are some of our favorite tips to help throw a great BBQ for less money.

Look for Sales at the Grocery Store to Throw a Great BBQ for Less Money

Remember the most costly part of the meal will be the protein you are grilling.  Whether it is steak, chicken or hot dogs everyone looks forward to this part of the meal.  Some simple planning can help you out.  Check grocery store flyers for sales on meats, fish and poultry in the weeks before your BBQ.  Fill your freezer with your favorites while the prices are lower.  Check the flyers from week to week as different cuts of meat may go on sale over several weeks.  Also check around at several different grocery stores in your area.  The prices and sales can vary from one store to another. Make your party a BYOM or BYOD when it comes to the meat or drinks.  This will ensure that your guests get their favorite meat and beverages.  You only need to supply the sides and a grill.

Keep Your Menu Simple

Simplifying your menu is another great cost saving move.  Limit your menu to 1 protein and 2 sides with a big watermelon for dessert.  Everyone will still be full and you won’t have to worry about left overs for days. A simple salad, fruit plate or hummus with veggies are easy to make and delicious.  Look for simple ingredients in your sides.  Try to ask your guests to bring a dish to share.  Stock up on condiments and paper goods prior to your party when there are sales.  Grab cheaper, large size bottles that will be lower in cost and last all summer long.  This makes life easier for you and will save you some money.

Make Your Own Decorations

Save a lot of money by making your own decorations.  Get the kids involved.  They can color pictures to use as placemats and color or cut out paper banners that you can string along the deck or hang on chairs. This will give your party some adorable décor and keep the kids busy while you are in the kitchen.
